WSKO Squad on Top Again

On Saturday 8th April 2018 a Small WSKO Squad Travelled up to Essex in Preparation to Compete at the CHKA Karate Open.

After an early start and what seemed like forever (Chris Sparrow Sat Nav is shocking), the squad checked in to the hotel and headed out for some pre competition relaxation.

Yes you guessed it the adults found a Weatherspoons!

The evening was then spent with the competitors quietly  preparing for the day ahead, Sensei Gerwyn Harries having a relaxing massage (off his personal masseuse Dave)and of course sensei Paul Davies being welcomed into the fold!

Competition Day Arrived and up first was Harry Davies of Swansea in U16 Kata, Progressing through the rounds to take a well deserved Gold medal and doing so without dropping a flag.

Next up was Sean Barton of Swansea in Disability Kata, He narrowly lost out in a 2/1 flag decision.

On To Kumite:

Ellis Evans FSKS fought at U8 with a 6/0 win then lost in a respectful 0/1 fight.

Kenitra Sparrow PSKS U10 1st round came up against a tough competitor but as always fought well.

Lucas Evans FSKS U12 -35kg fought outstanding and progressed through the rounds with a 1/0, 2/1 win. He narrowly lost out to medal position in a 0/1 reult.

Ben Thomas YSKS U14 -45kg fought well but conceded a point in the last second losing out 0/1 to the eventual silver medallist.

Daniel Rees YSKS U14 +45kg fought as always a good fight but lost out on a 0/1 result.

Special mention to Rhys Rowbotham who although  was unable to fight due to injury showed commitment to his fellow squad mates by providing encouraging support during each fight.

Massive shout out to both Gerwyn and Paul for coaching the squad as always giving up your time to allow the squad to compete at such events.

A very Special mention goes out to Mark Sherlock who took time out from a family trip and called in to show his support to the squad.

Lastly a Huge Thank You to the Parents and Supporters for you Commitment to the Squad.
